Better staffing for Leicestershire hospitality starts with listening.

We’re Christian and Pablo. Before taking our idea any further, we want to understand how independent pubs, restaurants, cafés, hotels and event venues manage last-minute staffing gaps, and what kind of support would genuinely help.

The research

One survey. Three minutes. It shapes what happens next.

Every answer feeds directly into whether — and how — a staffing service gets built for Leicestershire hospitality.

01

About three minutes

Quick questions about how your venue handles staffing gaps. No account, no sign-up, nothing to install.

02

Confidential by design

Responses are analysed together. No individual business is ever identified in our findings.

Your answers steer the build

Frequency, roles, prices, deal-breakers: what venues tell us is what gets built — or the reason it doesn't.

Our goal

A proper way to cover a shift, built for independents.

When someone calls in sick just two hours before service, venues often have to rely on WhatsApp groups, personal favours or agencies that may be too slow or expensive. We’re exploring whether a local service could offer a more practical alternative:

  • A venue posts the role, location, hours and other shift details.
  • A suitable, vetted local worker can accept the shift.
  • The estimated total price is shown before the venue confirms. If nobody accepts, the venue pays nothing.
  • The service manages the worker’s pay, recorded hours and related administration.

The service hasn’t been built yet. That’s why we’re asking hospitality businesses for their views before taking the idea further.

What we’re aiming for

Simple for venues.
Fair for workers.

For venues

The aim is to offer one clear price and one simple payment. Tenner would manage the worker’s pay and related employment administration, reducing the paperwork for the venue. If nobody accepts the shift, the venue pays nothing.

For workers

Workers would be able to choose local shifts, see the pay rate before accepting and receive payment through payroll, with the rights that apply to their employment status. There would be no fee to find or accept shifts.

The essential work behind every shift

Under the proposed model, Tenner would verify workers’ identities and right to work, collect references and manually approve them before their first shift. We would also aim to manage the appropriate contracts, payroll and insurance, while clearly explaining any responsibilities that remain with the venue.

ID verified
Right-to-work checked

Manually approved

This is the standard we are building to — the survey is where you tell us what would earn your trust.

Who we are focusing on

Independent hospitality, first.

We’re starting with independently run pubs, bars, restaurants, cafés, hotels, caterers and event venues—businesses where staffing decisions are often made by the people managing day-to-day operations.

Help shape the Leicester pilot.

We are speaking with hospitality owners and managers across Leicestershire before launching. If short-notice staffing is a real problem in your venue, your input will shape what gets built.
